Remarks

The Bayer matrices are dispersed dot: neighboring cells hold thresholds as far apart as the cell allows, so the pixels that are turned on will scatter into a fine crosshatch.

The spiral matrices are clustered dot: thresholds grow outward from the middle of the cell, so the pixels that turn on will merge into a single blob, the way a printed halftone screen works. The dual variants hold two such dots per cell, diagonally offset, which puts the screen at 45 degrees and makes it finer without enlarging the cell, at the cost of half the tone resolution.

The noise matrices are aperiodic, so unlike the other two families they give the eye no pattern to lock onto at large cell sizes. Blue noise spreads its dots evenly and reads as smooth grain, while white noise is plain randomness, which clumps and reads as blotchy. The noise tiles have to be generated rather than looked up, and are the only ones affected by Seed.

The Bayer and spiral matrices, except Bayer2x2, are the ones the corresponding BitmapDitherType uses.
